We were both young when I first saw you.
I close my eyes and the flashback starts.

An eighteen year-old Tony Stark was being introduced to possibly everyone in the state of California at yet another stupid dinner party. His parents always insisted on him making an appearance, shaking people's hands and introducing himself. Everyone was always the same :rich, snobby and indifferent to everything else. As he shook yet another hand, someone caught his eyes. The boy looked about his age, tall, blond and muscular. His hair was slicked back and his blue eyes sparkled in the light of the ballroom. All in all, the man was a complete stunner. As his mom and dad bustled him along, spewing more names he didn't care about, the young genius kept his eye on the other male, seeing him smile in a way that made his heart stop. The blond man looked around, sighed, whispered something in his mother's ear and left for the balcony "Hey mom, I'm gonna get some air" Tony mumbled, starting to make his way through the stuffed, crowded room.

I'm standing there, on a balcony in summer air.
See the lights, see the party, the ball gowns.
See you make your way through the crowd.

Steve sat on the edge of the balcony, staring out over the beautiful garden. He didn't know why his parents dragged him to these parties, parading him around like he was a first place trophy. It was always someone different, family friends, neighbors. This party was being held by the Stark family, one of the richest families around and also his father's business rival. They were...mutual; the wives got along much better. Steve turned and looked back into the party. All the ladies were wearing expensive, bright dresses, all of them trying to out-do one another, while the men wore flashy tuxedos. Steve, himself, was wearing a black and white suit with a light blue tie.  As he scanned the crowd, his eyes fell upon another man, maybe about his age. The man was shorter with messy brown hair and hazel eyes. He seemed to be looking for someone, standing on his tip toes to look over everyone. After a few minutes of this, their eyes met and Steve swore he was suffering from heart failure. The other man froze for a split second and then pushed his way through the crowd towards the balcony door.

And say "Hello".
Little did I know.

Tony opened the balcony door and walked out, carefully closing it behind him. "Uh...Hi" he said lamely, cheeks flaring up with color. "Hi" said the blond man, looking a bit confused. "Um, I'm Tony. Tony Stark" said Tony, trying to break the awkwardness the seemed to surround them. The other man smiled slightly. "Nice to meet you, Mr. Stark. I'm Steve Rogers".

That you were Romeo, you were throwing pebbles,
And my daddy said, "Stay away from Juliet"
And I was crying on the staircase
Begging you, "Please don't go"

Steve and Tony hit it off immediately, talking about everything: their parents, cars, music, school, places they'd like to go, everything they could think of. It was as if they had known each other for years. Steve had never met a man like Stark. He was funny, honest and a complete braniac. Tony found himself falling for Steve quickly. He was kind, brave, courteous and creative, being able to see the beauty in anything. "Why don't we get something to drink, Tony?" said Steve, holding out his hand for the smaller man. Tony placed his hand in Steve"s, their fingers interlocking. The two young men walked through the bustling crowd towards the bar, no one really paying them any attention. Steve let go of Tony's hand and walked towards the bar, ordering two glasses of wine. As he waited, he felt a tap on his shoulder. Turning around, he was shocked to see none other than Howard Stark, arms across his chest, scowl on his face. "Stay away from my son. I don't need you spying for your father, passing on information to him and using my son in the process" the man growled, glaring at Steve for a few minutes before walking away. Steve walked quickly toward Tony, who asked him at once what it was all about. When Steve told him, Tony grabbed his hand and dragged him towards a pair of doors leading to a staircase. He sat down with tears in his eyes and looked up at Steve, feeling miserable.

And I said...
Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone.
I'll be waiting; all that's left to do is run.
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess,
It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes."

"Can you take me with you, Steve? Get me out of here?" he asked the taller man wearily. "I'm tired of being paraded around like a dog, I want out". Steve sighed and helped Tony up, wrapping him in a hug. People moved around them, leaving the party to go home. "Meet me in the garden at midnight tonight" Steve whispered in the young billionaire's ear. Tony nodded and then stepped back, watching the blond leave with his parents. Suddenly, midnight couldn't come fast enough.

So I sneak out to the garden to see you.
We keep quiet 'cause we're dead if they knew
So close your eyes... escape this town for a little while.

At 12:00, Tony ran silently out of the house, running across the damp grass to the garden. As he looked around, he saw to his disappointment that Steve hadn't got there yet. Meanwhile, Steve was occupied with the giant fence that surrounded Stark property. As quick as he could, Steve hopped the fence, landing lightly on the other side. He looked around the dark property, spotting Tony. Running up behind him, Steve picked Tony up and hugged him tightly. Jumping, Tony turned around and sighed in relief as he saw it was Steve. "You didn't think I'd show, huh?" asked Steve, causing them both to grin. "I drew you something" said the the taller man, handing Tony a folded paper. Tony slipped it into his jacket pocket carefully to admire later. Tony guided him to a small stone bench and sat down, Steve joining him. "You know, my dad was pretty upset after the party, you being a Rogers and all. i told him that I didn't care, but of course, I have no say" said Tony, sighing and looking to Steve, expecting a reply. What he didn't expect was to see the other man fast asleep. Tony smiled to himself and let his own eyes shut, drifting off into a peaceful sleep.

'Cause you were Romeo – I was a scarlet letter,
And my daddy said, "Stay away from Juliet."
But you were everything to me,
I was begging you, "Please don't go."

The two men woke early, the sun just rising and the bird starting to sing. "Are you sure you have to go?" Tony asked, his amazing mood turning sad fast. Steve sighed and looked out over the lawn with regret. "Yeah. My parents will be up soon and so will yours. I'll call you later today, though" he said, pulling a pen from his pocket and scribbling his number on the folded paper. Tony smiled down at it and then looked up at Steve, seeing his own sadness there. Slowly and carefully, the two of them leaned in, their lips meeting in the middle. Though the kiss lasted for a second, Steve felt as if it went on forever. Finally breaking the kiss, Steve squeezed Tony's hand and then jogged away towards the fence.

And I said...
Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone.
I'll be waiting; all that's left to do is run.
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess.
It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes."

Tony walked back into the house, sighing. He was still in his suit from last night, which was now wrinkled and wet. He tip toed up stairs and hopped in the shower, trying not to think about how much he missed Steve already. He got out, dried off and threw on some pajamas. He walked into his room and took the folded paper out of the jacket pocket, opening it. Tony felt his eyes widen as he looked down at the drawing. It was Tony, gazing out over the garden, the small lights reflected in his eyes. It looked like a photograph, it was so well drawn. Tony clutched it to his chest, feeling waves of happiness overpowering everything else.

Romeo, save me, they're trying to tell me how to feel.
This love is difficult but it's real.
Don't be afraid, we'll make it out of this mess.
It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes."

"Where the hell were you, Steve?!" Mr. Rogers yelled, glaring down at his only son. A few feet away, Mrs. Rogers looked nervously at her husband, hoping nothing bad would happen. Steve sighed, knowing that one way or another, his folks would find out. "I went back to Stark's to...see their son Tony again" the man mumbled, feeling sudden anxiety creep up on him. His dad began screaming about homosexuality and betrayal of turst when his mom finally stepped in. "You can't tell him who to love or how to feel, hon. Steve, you're our son and we love you. If you truly love Tony Stark, go for it".

I got tired of waiting
Wondering if you were ever coming around.
My faith in you was fading
When I met you on the outskirts of town.
And I said...

Tony sat on his bed, staring at his phone, waiting for either a call or text from Steve. He was getting worried. Had the other man given up already? Had his parents forbid him from ever seeing him again. Finally a text came in, simply saying to meet him just outside town. Tony began getting dressed at break-neck speed, grabbing his phone and a jacket. "Where are you going, sweetie?" asked Mrs. Stark, looking up from her book. "Just meeting a friend for a few hours. Where's dad?" Tony asked as a side thought. "He was just in his office, on the phone" said his mom, fighting to keep a smile off her face. Without stopping to think, Tony ran outside to his car and began the seemingly long drive to Steve,

"Romeo, save me, I've been feeling so alone.
I keep waiting for you but you never come.
Is this in my head? I don't know what to think."
He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring and said...
"Marry me, Juliet, you'll never have to be alone.
I love you, and that's all I really know.
I talked to your dad – go pick out a white dress
It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes."

Steve heard the sound of Tony's car speeding towards him. "Okay Mr. Stark, he's here. Thank you so so so much" he said, hanging up his phone and shoving it in his pocket. The silver car squealed to a stop and young Tony practically sprinted towards him, wrapping is arms around Steve's neck. "I've been so alone" the brunet murmured, feeling the blond's lips on his forehead. Steve let him go, sighed and then knealt down on the ground. "Tony...I called your father today and told him how I felt for you. So, will you marry me mister Stark?". Tony stood there stunned and finally whispered yes, feeling tears run down his cheeks. The two embraced, finally being able to love each other.
